FAQs

Which vehicles can be fitted with a parking heater?

Almost any vehicle can be fitted with a parking heater.

How long does it take a parking heater to warm up the engine and the passenger compartment?

This depends greatly upon the ambient air temperature and the size of the vehicle. A heating period of between 15 and 30 minutes is however normally sufficient to turn uncomfortable minus temperatures into comfortable interior warmth.

How is the parking heater activated?

Activation of the parking heater is achieved either by radio remote control (Telestart T91 and Telestart T100 HTM), by telephone (Thermo Call) or by using the programmable digital timer. Test our innovative control elements.

Is there evidence that parking heaters offer increased safety?

According to the statistics most accidents in winter occur within the first 15 minutes of driving off. The reason for this is the limited vision and the increased reaction times brought about by the low temperatures. A parking heater offers greater safety and comfort on cold and wet days and in winter. Added advantages: Both the engine and the environment are placed under less strain.

How much fuel does a parking heater consume?

Of course, modern Webasto parking heaters are optimised for low fuel consumption. They only require a maximum of 0.6 l / h at full power – that’s just 0.3 l over 30 minutes. But because the engine is not started from cold this increase in fuel consumption is balanced out.

What needs to be observed if a vehicle is fuelled with biodiesel?

Up to 20 % biodiesel is mixed with conventional Diesel. This mixture is suitable for parking heaters. The parking heater also functions with E10 biofuel (fuel containing 10 % ethanol). Vegetable oil is unsuitable.

What does the parking ventilation function do? What advantages does this offer?

With the parking ventilation function you can also profit from the Thermo Top parking heaters in summer. The vehicle fan can be activated by all of the Webasto control units. (Digital timer in combination with an additional summer / winter switch). Fresh air from outside is blown into the car’s interior, thereby avoiding the build-up of heat. The parking ventilation function comes as standard with all of the Thermo Top units.

Parking heaters also need electricity. What are the implications for the vehicle’s electrical system?

Thermo Top parking heaters also exhibit an optimum electricity consumption / performance ratio. However, the rule of thumb still applies: heating time should not exceed driving time.

Does fitting a parking heater affect the vehicles’ exhaust emission classification?

No. Exhaust emissions are significantly reduced when the engine is pre-warmed.

Can parking heaters also be removed and refitted in other vehicles?

Yes. But for technical and economic reasons this does not normally make sense because a parking heater increases the resale value of a car. In addition, the parts that are removed are not usually sufficient to fit the same parking heater into another car. Vehicle-specific components or a complete installation kit are required.

Do parking heaters require maintenance?

No. However we do recommend that the heater unit be checked by a technician before the cold weather period sets in. The parking heater should also be switched on at least once a month throughout the year and operated for approx. 15 to 30 minutes.

Must a parking heater be tested and certified?

Standards testing and certification is no longer required because the parking heater is now supplied with an ”EC type-approval certificate“. Following professional installation and the fixing of the type-approval mark onto the vehicle’s type plate this certificate must be stamped and signed. The completed EC type-approval certificate must be filled out from your Webasto dealer and has to be kept in the vehicle.

Does the parking heater turn itself off or not turn on at all at a certain coolant temperature?

Yes! Once the maximum temperature is reached the unit operates in fuel-saving partial load mode or it goes into standby.

What is an auxiliary heater?

Modern direct injection Diesel engines are so efficient that they do not produce enough excess heat to run the vehicle’s heating system. Diesel vehicles are therefore frequently fitted with an auxiliary heater to ensure a comfortable temperature is reached in the passenger compartment during the journey.

If a car already has an auxiliary heater fitted, is it possible to upgrade it to a parking heater? If so, how?

With the aid of an upgrade kit, you can turn this auxiliary heater into a fully fledged parking heater. This solution costs far less than a completely new parking heater.

My car already has air conditioning. Can I still have a parking heater installed?

It can be installed in most vehicles without problems. Depending on the heating and a/c system fitted in the works, adjustments may have to be made to the a/c control unit before you leave the vehicle. Further information can be found in the on-board literature of instructions for use in the installation documents.

What is the difference between the Thermo Top C and the Thermo Top P?

Both models heat with the power of 5.2kW for a maximum time of 60 minutes. The Thermo Top P optimises the coolant circulation and therefore provides a greatly improved air flow into the cabin and achieves and improvement of up to 30%. With a Thermo P, your clients will feel the warming effects of the parking heater much sooner than with a Thermo C!

How a parking heater works

Innovative technology from the market leader to keep your car's interior cosy and warm. Take a look here to see how your parking heater works.

Protect the environment

A Webasto parking heater drastically reduces exhaust emissions – by as much as 50% for a petrol-engined vehicle.

Diesel drivers are at an advantage

Many diesel vehicles can be upgraded with a parking heater at no great cost – and help spare the environment, says the ADAC.
